FOLDING BIKE PILIPINAS
EXPLORERS IN TWO WHEELS
Quality over quantity: That’s what separates Folding Bike Pilipinas (FBP) from other groups. FBP administrator Jeans Cequina says the group is a tight-knit bunch bound by a passion for folding bikes both as a means of transportation and integrated way of life.
Established in 2011, FBP comes from the convergence of bike enthusiasts from various bike groups that have communed to support bike-centric advocacies, while staying true to the spirit of fun and solidarity.
“We currently have 332 members,” shares Cequina. “We want to keep membership under 500 so we get to really know our members and actually ride with them.” A close and small group also ensures camaraderie among members and loyalty to the group.
“That’s what makes us unique—the fact that we are a closely-knit group of loyal members—young and old—who love to explore the city on our folding two-wheeled steeds,” says Cequina.
There’s something to be said for bigger groups with ambitious advocacies; the world certainly needs them. But there’s also something special about a tight bond shared through a common passion, and that’s the core essence of FBP.
Folding Bike Pilipinas organizes the Manila Folding Bike Festival, a whole day event for bike enthusiasts. The event serves as a platform for bikers to meet each other, as well as revel in their shared passion for biking.
The event includes a bike parade, bike shows, talks about biking and its benefits, raffles, bazaars, clinics, exhibits, and competitions that add up to a celebration of how biking binds people.
