Run, Bike, Repeat: Grand Launch of Powerman Duathlon Pilipinas 2016
“We want to push run-bike-run to be not just a sports event, but a lifestyle. Fitness is very important in our daily lives. Fitness, health, and vitality are our long-term vision,” said Raymund Magdaluyo, Chairman of Powerman Duathlon Pilipinas during the grand launch of Powerman Duathlon Pilipinas 2016, April 28 at Clawdaddy’s Great American Picnic, BGC, Taguig.
This year, the Powerman Duathlon Pilipinas Asian Invitational 2016 or the “Powerman Short” will be held in SM MOA By The Bay, Pasay on November 20. Meanwhile, the Powerman Duathlon Pilipinas World Series 2016 or the “Powerman Classic” is slated to happen in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga on December 3-4.
The Powerman Short is divided into Age Group and Asian Elite categories. Participants will sizzle all the way to the 5km run – 30km bike – 5km run race format.
Meanwhile, the 10km run – 60km bike – 10km run format of Powerman Classic pave its route into 5 categories: Powerman Short, Powerkids, Powerteens, International Elite, and Age Group category.
Clark is said to be the one of the birthplaces of local duathlon. It made its debut last year at the Bataan Tourism Center in Balanga, Bataan on November 14 and 15. Based on the committee’s unofficial statement, Duathletes will also get a chance to bag close to a million prize money in two events this year.
Magdaluyo mentioned that Powerman.org ranking serves as a solid reference for the age group categories as Powerman remains to be the leading duathlon event worldwide for over 27 years, “Our dream is to develop or find the next Filipino champion. The common distance is 10 km running, then 60 km cycling finishing with 10 km running at 2:30 hours. We would like to send athletes for training abroad.”
Powerman Duathlon, one of the most recognized duathlon series in the world has always been conducted with a typical variation of a running leg, a cycling leg, and another running leg in resemblance to triathlon race distances.
“We are pushing for the run-bike-run lifestyle. We were given an opportunity to host the World Series race, it proves that Duathlon is a sport where Filipinos can excel in. This is made possible in partnership with Anytime Fitness, a 24/7 neighbourhood-style fitness club. The healthy and fit lifestyle should be available anytime and anywhere,” says Owen Gan, President of Powerman Duathlon Pilipinas. Miguel Gutierrez and Johannes Raadsma of Anytime Fitness Philippines were also present at the grand launch.
